Director of Public Services Explains Road Clearing

🚧 State, County & Township Roads

Understanding Who Maintains Our Roads

Three different agencies maintain Green Township’s public roadways:

  • Green Township
  • Hamilton County Engineer’s Office
  • Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)

These agencies share responsibility for road repairs, maintenance, and snow removal throughout the Township.

🏘 Green Township Responsibilities

Green Township maintains the majority of residential streets — a total of 535 roads covering more than 111.94 miles.

As a general guideline:

If a road has double yellow centerlines, it is not typically maintained by the Township.

There are a few exceptions, but this rule applies in most cases.

🛣 County and State Responsibilities

The Hamilton County Engineer’s Office maintains approximately 105.49 miles of roadway within Green Township.
Roads maintained by the
Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) include major state routes and highways.

❄️ Snow Removal and Legal Authority

During winter weather events, residents sometimes contact the Township about road conditions on streets outside our jurisdiction.
However,
Ohio law does not authorize Green Township to maintain or plow roads that belong to the County or State.

Expanding snow removal beyond Township-maintained streets would require:

  • Additional equipment and manpower
  • Increased salt and supply costs
  • New tax revenue, such as an additional street levy, to fund the expansion

For these reasons, the Township focuses its resources on the roads we are legally responsible for maintaining.

📋 Street Listing and Contacts
